Name: Arenaceous Shale

Geologic Name:  Esopus Grit

Reference:  Chadwick, G.H., Geology of the Catskill and Kaaterskill Quadrangles:
N.Y. State Mus. Bull. 336, 194?.

Microscopic characters:  Fragmental texture.  The rock consists of angular grains
of quartz and feldspar with an argillaceous cement.  Fine shreds of sericite
together with chlorite appear in the cement.  There are also grains of tourmaline,
zircon, pyrite, magnetite and leucoxene.
